Director, Digital Content

Job Summary

The Director of Digital Content will oversee the production and management of content for the Club’s digital properties including the website, mobile and social media platforms and lead the overall digital content and marketing strategies.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Create, develop and implement an overall digital content plan and strategy for
  • Oversee on a daily basis and manage the site throughout the season, on matchdays and off-season.
  • Think creatively and develop innovative digital and social media strategies to increase engagement.
  • Oversee the Club’s social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Stay current with digital and subject matter trends, while reviewing analytics reports.
  • Maintain strong communication among cross-functional teams (corporate partnerships, communications, sporting, etc.) to ensure alignment of vision and implementation.
  • Successfully meet aggressive timelines and proactively address bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with MLS digital teams and agency partners to ensure marketing goals are met.
  • Oversees development of microsites, from design and development, to marketing while working with stakeholders throughout the entire process.
  • Responsible for overseeing Club’s mobile application development and execution.
  • Ability to oversee and delegate responsibilities to potential third parties, freelancers and contributors as needed.
  • Maintain a high degree of quality assurance on organizational sites.
  • Manage organization's non-editorial content strategy and content audits.
  • Create promotional landing pages and contest forms.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and new technologies.
  • Use digital media analytics to guide content strategy and new product offerings.
  • Cross promote digital content across digital channels.
  • Execute digital marketing campaigns for team partners/sponsors.
  • Leads department staff including digital, social, creative and matchday teams.
  • Works with marketing and sales teams to increase revenue through ticket sales and sponsorship initiatives as well as fulfilling digital media needs for internal departments.
  • Other duties as required. 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, digital media or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience managing websites and social media identities.
  • Exceptional writing skills and editorial acumen.
  • Thinks creatively and develops innovative digital strategies to increase engagement.
  • Experience working on various content management systems and in XHTML, HTML, PHP, XML and CSS.
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Deep familiarity and understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, etc.) and ability to stay ahead of social media trends.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools (Google Analytics, Webtrends, Omniture, etc.) and interpreting data.
  • Exceptional knowledge and passion for the sport and culture of fútbol with strong familiarity of Major League Soccer, English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, etc., preferred.
  • Manage large-scale projects, from concept to completion to maintenance.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to effectively multi-task in a deadline driven atmosphere.
  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships with all internal staff and management.
  • Must be detail-oriented, ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and professional manner, be well organized and able to prioritize efficiently, and take initiative. 
  • Must stay abreast of trends and issues in soccer and sports.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends and holidays when required.
